We support nylon materials of various specifications such as nylon 6 (PA 66), nylon 66 (PA 66).

About the Nylon Material

Nylon is a versatile low-cost plastic, ideal for parts that require high compressive strength and friction resistance, while machining to very tight tolerances. It can be used in place of metal in some applications, allowing for longer-wearing parts that require lower maintenance than its metal counterpart. Nylon generally is stronger, withstands higher temperatures, and is more cost efficient than PTFE, PEEK, and UHMW.
Nylon, also known as polyamide, is often used as a substitute for low-strength metals like steel, copper, iron, etc in the CNC machining process to produce CNC machined nylon parts.
Nylon CNC machining is a method using machine tools to remove the excess materials from nylon stocks and execute certain machining processes depending on the computer programming, and then create the desired nylon components. Nylon machined parts play an essential role in the manufacturing of automobiles, electrical, chemical equipment, and so on, due to their high resistance to chemical and abrasion, and good rigidity and toughness. Besides, it is an ideal option for producing pump blades, gears, and bearings because of its excellent corrosion resistance, wear resistance, lightweight, and non-toxic. As its hardness can be strengthened by melt spinning, nylon is also widely applied to form a various array of knitwear and medical products.

What is Nylon?

Nylon refers to the group of plastics known as Polyamides. One of the most common engineering plastics in the world, it has outstanding bearing and wear properties.

Brand names include Nylatron®, Tecamid® and Nylacast®.

It is available as a homopolymer, copolymer or reinforced. It can also be pre-conditioned to reduce moisture absorption during its lifetime. Oil filled and glass filled grades are available.

Nylon can be difficult to machine due to the nature of the chips/swarf produced during the manufacturing process. We use high speed steel cutting tools over carbide as they have a sharper cutting edge. We also use the highest cutting speed and are aware of how clamping/fixturing can affect the part.

The two most common grades of Nylon are Nylon 6 and Nylon 66. The number relates to the number of methyl groups which are located on each side of the nitrogen atoms (amide groups), the difference in which subtly influences the properties of the nylon.

The Advantages of Nylon Material

  • Smooth surface, small friction coefficient, wear-resistant.
  • High mechanical strength, good toughness, high tensile and compressive strength. The tensile strength is close to the yield strength, more than double that of ABS.
  • It is self-extinguishing, non-toxic, odorless, has good weather resistance, is inert to biological erosion, and has good antibacterial and mildew resistance.
  • Excellent electrical performance.
  • the parts can still maintain the original mechanical strength after repeated inflections many times.
  • Corrosion resistance, very resistant to alkali and most salt solutions, also resistant to weak acid, engine oil, gasoline, aromatic hydrocarbon compounds, and general solvents, inert to aromatic compounds, but not resistant to strong acids and oxidants.
  • High softening point and heat resistance.
