About the ABS Material

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, or ABS, is a versatile, widely-used thermoplastic polymer with countless uses: from automotive components to medical devices to musical instruments. In finely-powdered form, ABS can even be used in tattoo ink.

ABS is a terpolymer made up of 15-35% acrylonitrile, 5-30% butadiene, and 40-60% styrene; proportions vary by grade. The acrylonitrile content gives ABS its strength, the butadiene provides toughness, and the styrene imparts a shiny, impervious surface.

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer (ABS) both acrylonitrile (A) good heat resistance, aging resistance, corrosion resistance, butadiene (B) high toughness, impact resistance, low temperature resistance, and styrene (S) easy processing and many other advantages. ABS plastic is unique in its high strength, high toughness, impact resistance, heat resistance, low temperature resistance, and corrosion resistance.

ABS Plastic Properties

ABS resin is one of the five synthetic resin.Its impact resistance, heat resistance, low-temperature resistance, chemical resistance, and excellent electrical properties, but also has easy to be machined and good stability of the part size, surface gloss, easy painting, coloring, etc. of course, it also can undertake surface spraying, electroplating, metal welding, hot pressing and adhesion, and other secondary processing, So today, ABS parts widely used in machinery, automobile, electronic appliances, instruments and meters, textile and construction industries.

Most of ABS is the non-toxic, waterproof, low water absorption rate. The physical performance will not be changed when the water absorption rate is less than 1% a year in the room. And the surface of ABS parts can be polished to get highly polished parts.

Excepting for the above two points, ABS parts have excellent comprehensive physical and mechanical properties and excellent low-temperature impact resistance. The specific performance in the following aspects:

  • Good comprehensive performance, high impact strength& chemical stability, good electrical performance;
  • Good welding, it can be made two colors plastic parts, and can be coated with chromium & spray painting;
  • Liquidity is slightly less than HIPS but better than PMMA, PC material, etc.
  • Apply to machine common mechanical parts, transmission parts, and telecom parts

What are the benefits of CNC Machining ABS?

ABS, or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, is a widely used thermoplastic that has become common due to its relatively low cost and excellent toughness. CNC machining in ABS is a cost-effective way to cut parts into custom shapes without the need for expensive molds, particularly for prototypes, jigs and fixtures, and low-volume production.

ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) plastic is used in a wide array of industries due to its low cost, manufacturability, and exceptional mechanical properties. It is found in a vast number of consumer products and is also used extensively in the automotive industry. CNC machined ABS exhibits remarkable toughness, rigidity, and shock absorbance characteristics, especially for such an inexpensive material.

What can you make with ABS Plastic?

As with most plastics, you need to protect your custom ABS parts from high-heat situations due to its low continuous operation temperature (about 150 degrees F). In the right application, however, this lightweight and low-cost plastic can bring a new kind of strength to your project.

Our CNC Machining ABS Capabilities

At our state-of-the-art facility, we offer the highest quality ABS CNC machining services. Our experienced team is committed to providing each customer with an exceptional level of service through innovative and efficient processes.

Our ABS CNC machining capabilities allow for consistent repeatability and accuracy in our production process. We use a range of techniques including milling, drilling, tapping, turning, grinding, and other operations to manufacture intricate parts from engineering-grade plastics. Our facilities also feature cutting-edge 3D printing technology which complements our traditional CNC methods.

ABS Material Finish

ABS has a somewhat matte finish (think lego bricks) and can be painted. Certain faces may appear more shiny depending on their geometry and how they’re machined. If painting ABS parts, finish will be dependant of the choice of paint.
